Toastmaster International has been a great organisation to be involved with. I love the power of the spoken word and Toastmasters is what I consider my speaking-gym. It's the chance to prepare, practice and deliver a speech when there is no other "stage" available. Hybrid communication - both in-person as well as virtual - is the new skill for communicators moving forward. Toastmaster is very well positioned to support you in developing these skills. My personal belief is that if you master this skill, it will become a personal and professional competitive differentiator for you. At my corporate Toastmaster club at #Oracle we have encouraged our members to not only deliver "live" virtual speeches but also recorded (unedited) video speeches. It helps to practice the two sides of the video presentation coin - live Vs record delivery So, in the spirit of practicing what one is preaching I recorded a speech for a club meeting I was not able to attend. The speech format at Toastmasters is that it is no more than 5-7 mins in duration, has a defined structure based on a topic (the topic of this speech was "Inspire Your Audience: We All have a Choice". There is a liberty and freedom in the choices we make. For a long time in my life I was not aware that I could make choices about aspects of my life I didn't think I had a choice in. One of the most amazing opportunities everyone one of us has is the choice we can make in how we see ourselves which then ultimately is how we then present ourselves to the world. It is in this choice, as I have discovered, where real fulfillment exists.

Life is a fantastic thing. A big part of it - as I am increasingly finding out - is how important the role of leadership plays in it. I have a passion for learning about leadership and applying the principles that resonate with me into my own life. One of the principles that seems to form a important part of leadership is the need for coaching. In this video I explore what I call the "symphony of life" which is how we all need - at one time or another - the helping and guiding hand of someone or some people who have been where we are heading and can now invest the time to help others on their own journey. I learnt the importance of the words we speak when a friend of mine Greg Gardiner said these words to me... ...your mind doesn't know what to think, it believes whatever you tell it. Those words single handedly change my perspective of life. Our words can be the tonic a person needs. They can be the medicine another requires. They can be what lights the match of inspiration for someone to alter how they lead their life.
